| INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL – BOURGAS, Bourgas, Burgas |

The International Folklore Festival is organized by Municipality of Bourgas under the patronage of the Mayor of the city. Co-organizers are the Ministry of Culture and Bulgarian National Television. In 1978 it was granted membership of the International Council of the Organizers of Folklore Festivals – CIOFF; since 2001 it is a member of the International Festivals & Events Association Europe /IFEA/.
Bulgarian and foreign folk song and dances ensembles, folk choirs and orchestras are eligible to apply for participation in the Festival. The number of the ensemble members and the persons accompanying them must not exceed 40 persons altogether. The participants should be of an age over 15. Recitals and participation in mixed performances of 5, 15 and 30-minute duration should be included in each ensemble’s programme. If the programme is performed by playback, the recording should be submitted as a studio CD or mini disc. It is recommended that the ensembles deliver their performances with live orchestras.
Concerts at the stage of the Summer Theatre of Bourgas /seated for 2,300/, at open-air stages in the city and its region, a festive parades, a scientific conference on folklore problems, traditional souvenirs exhibition with bazaar, folk crafts workshop, photographing and videotaping of the festival activities are included in the International Folklore Festival.
The International Folklore Festival does not have a competitive character.
Within the festival days Bulgarian professional ensembles for folk songs and dances deliver performances and provide the possibility of introducing the Bulgarian folk tradition and culture.
The individual program of the ensembles is being delivered to the participants on the day of their arrival. The Organizing Committee provides an interpreter for each ensemble.
The ensembles’ accommodation expenses are on the account of the Organizing Committee. The travel expenses to Bourgas and back are on ensembles’ account. In case the number of ensemble members exceeds 40 persons altogether, the ensemble itself will bear their accommodation expenses.
Folklore ensembles that had already taken part in one of the last three issues of the International Folklore Festival and meet the requirements of the abovementioned criteria are allowed to participate in the Festival in case they bear all their travel and accommodation expenses for the Festival themselves.
The ensembles that are to participate in the Festival may be accompanied by folklore specialists, official guests or tourists. In this case such persons’ accommodation expenses are on their own account.
The applications for participation should obligatorily include:
• color photographs and advertising materials;
• exact address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail for conducting
a correspondence
Deadlines:
Receiving applications for participation: 30 March 2006
Artistic and consultative council provides for the participation of 15 folklore ensembles.
Sending notification to the ensembles whose participation has been approved by the Organising Committee: 30 April 2006.
Confirmation of ensembles’ participation and specifying technical and organizational details: 30 May 2006.
