"Burgas Municipality was a pioneer in the introduction of rules for healthy eating in schools," said Deputy Mayor for Education Yordanka Ananiev, today / 3 September / meeting with representatives of tenants RIPCPH and school canteens. The reason for discussion was the entering into force from 15 September a new Ordinance on nutrition of students.
Deputy Mayor of Education Yordanka spring Georgiev said that even before the year in Burgas Municipality technologist work, prepare weekly menu for school canteens, which was published regularly on the site of the municipality - www.burgas.bg. She also told that experts in the Department of Education have developed a program for healthy, balanced and rational nutrition of schoolchildren, which will be subject to the entry into force of new regulation.
During the meeting they discussed the specific requirements for foods and beverages offered in school canteens, cafeterias and vending machines for snacks and drinks within the school.
According to the ordinance's diets should include students' daily consumption of fruits and vegetables, adequate intake of milk and milk products, increasing the use of whole grains and limiting intake of fat, sugar and salt.
In the list of beneficial foods and drinks are also sandwiches, biscuits, desserts, milk, milk-based fruit, cereals, juices, nectars, dairy drinks, tea and chocolate.
Among the forbidden to offer foods are fried potato and cereal products, fried nuts, syrup cakes, cream cakes, pastry, etc..
Control over fulfillment of the requirements in the ordinance will be made by technology in the Municipality of Burgas and experts from RIPCPH - Burgas.
